BACK TO BASICS: The communication power of graphic design

2020 was a different year that will undoubtedly mark our lives, our way of understanding the world, of valuing things... Being forcibly confined made us live everything to the extreme extraordinary potential for communication and interaction in the virtual world, but at the same time, we realised the vital need and function of every detail that surrounds and gives meaning to our tangible life, the one that can be touched, smelled, savoured... To understand how much all that transcends a pixel, a line of code, an algorithm, contributes to us.

Drawn into creative and advertising activities, a phenomenon has occurred where certain aspects that are part of the fundamentals of our profession have been revived. This is also the case in the realm of conceptualisation and brand storytelling, Nostalgia has regained its vigour as a sensory trigger for many brand and product campaigns and activations., graphic design, great graphic design, on print media has once again been valued as it never should have stopped being.

We already know that it has always been important, that it is essential for good communication, but in this world of breakneck speed, immediacy, and design for experiences on minuscule screens, traditional graphic design, the kind that paid artisanal attention to colour, lines, space, contrast, the study of typography, the adoption of a style that generated a trend, and a long etcétera of basic elements of a designer's work, was lost with the digital revolution, the agonising death of paper, and the extinction of graphic design studios.

At MIG Prisma, MIG's creative agency, this phenomenon has been experienced with the same intensity as in any other agency, but we have always been Staunch defenders of that work which turns the designer into someone obsessed with detail. Thus, we always have projects that delight us with that unique experience of communicating content through design on every single one of its pages. This is the case with the Globaldecó Collection Catalogue, one of the leading Spanish firms in home furniture and decoration, which for the past 18 years has allowed us to enjoy the creation of its most symbolic work, one of its most powerful sales tools and a 100-page creative challenge that is awaited as a benchmark for deciding the home decor style of the brand's thousands of customers.

This year, it was clear to us that the collection catalogue or Lookbook it just had to be a return to basics in every sense. The first thing we do is a Brainstorming to choose the concept and narrative around which our work will revolve. And this year, we were clear: we were going to dedicate it to RESILIENCE.

From there, it was about developing that narrative and giving graphic meaning to each of the pages that had to lead the reader and client into a universe of sensations through design and composition. After three months of work, in May, as every year for the past 18, the work saw the light of day and from minute one in the shops in Spain the response was… marvellous. We leave it here for you to enjoy the design while you develop your resilience.
