Cantabria Labs held the third stop of "Objetivo Cero Melanoma 2026"—its awareness campaign focused on melanoma prevention and early detection—in Santander, in collaboration with Real Racing Club. MIG PRISMA handled media outreach and relations, helping to expand the reach of an initiative addressing an increasingly significant public health issue.

The Campos de Sport de El Sardinero hosted this latest stop of a campaign that is traveling to various Spanish cities throughout 2026 to provide the public with practical information on prevention, sun protection, skin self-examination, and early detection of melanoma.

The choice of Santander also holds special significance due to Cantabria Labs' ties to the Cantabria region and the opportunity to enlist Real Racing Club as a platform to spread the prevention message beyond strictly healthcare settings.

Zero Melanoma Goal: prevention and awareness regarding a growing problem

Melanoma prevention takes on special importance in a context where the incidence of skin cancer in Spain has risen by approximately 40% over the last four years.

"Objetivo Cero Melanoma" focuses precisely on one of the areas where communication can have the most direct impact: ensuring that more people are aware of the risks associated with sun exposure, adopt proper sun protection habits, and are able to identify potential warning signs.

One of the key aspects of the initiative is the dissemination of the ABCDE rule, a simple tool to guide mole self-examination by focusing on potential changes in asymmetry, borders, color, diameter, or evolution. The Cantabria Labs campaign combines this educational component with the participation of dermatology professionals and various in-person initiatives designed to bring medical knowledge to the general public.

It is no small challenge. According to data from the Heliocare by Cantabria Labs Observatory, a vast majority of the population remains unaware of this self-examination rule, highlighting the work that still needs to be done regarding information and prevention.

The role of public relations in a health campaign

From MIG PRISMA we have accompanied Cantabria Labs at this stop of Goal Zero Melanoma, taking responsibility for the media outreach, relations, and management, con el objetivo de incrementar la visibilidad de la iniciativa y favorecer que su mensaje alcanzara nuevas audiencias.

In projects of this nature, public relations should not be viewed merely as a tool for generating media coverage. Its true value lies in ensuring that a relevant message finds the right platforms for conversation, that the media understands why it merits attention, and that an initiative carried out at a specific time and place can extend its reach far beyond those physically present.

When it comes to prevention and public health, that capacity for amplification takes on even greater significance. A news story, an interview, or an informational piece can also become an opportunity to remind people of the importance of checking their skin, seeing a dermatologist if they notice any suspicious changes, or adopting better sun protection habits.

Therefore, a good PR strategy does not simply consist of getting a brand to appear. It involves finding the intersection between what an organization wants to communicate and what is truly relevant to society.

Cantabria Labs, Real Racing Club, and the ability to reach new audiences

The collaboration with the Real Racing Club It also makes it possible to take the prevention message out of its usual settings and bring it to different audiences. Sport—and specifically an institution with the deep social roots of Racing in Cantabria—offers a power to draw crowds and influence opinion that is difficult to replicate through health-focused communication alone.

The partnership between Cantabria Labs and the club makes it possible to link scientific outreach, prevention, and public awareness around a shared goal: ensuring more people understand that prevention and early detection are crucial in the fight against melanoma.

For MIG PRISMA, participating in this project also means working within a shared approach to public relations: leveraging the power of media and communication to give momentum to initiatives that have something meaningful to contribute.

PR and communications to amplify the messages that matter.

Corporate communication must generate visibility, build reputation, and help organizations secure a significant place in the public conversation. Yet there are projects where that communication capacity also serves to amplify messages capable of having a direct impact on people.

Zero Melanoma is one of them.

Desde MIG PRISMA agradecemos a Cantabria Labs ...continue trusting our team to support your communications and help raise the visibility of initiatives that combine scientific knowledge, awareness-raising, and a commitment to health.

Because public relations is also about that: Identify the messages that deserve to gain traction, turn them into conversations, and ensure they reach further.
